Solving Make.com's Microsoft Modern Authentication Issue
Recently, many Make.com users have been experiencing a common problem: all their scenarios are failing with an email login error. This issue started around the 22nd, when Microsoft changed their authentication from Basic to Modern. This change caused many Outlook accounts to start failing. The solution seemed simple enough - enable Modern auth to resolve the issue. However, this didn't seem to solve the problem for the scenarios.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the scenarios were still set up as IMAP instead of OAuth. This was causing the authentication error. However, when trying to change it to OAuth, there was no option to choose what email account to use. Each scenario uses a different email account, and for some reason, it was defaulting to a noreply account.
After some trial and error, it was possible to change the OAuth user and verify the credentials. However, the scenario was still failing with the authentication error. This led to the conclusion that the issue might be with the Make app itself, and not with the user's settings.
After reaching out to Make support, it was suggested to follow the steps described in their help docs: Connecting using Microsoft SMTP/IMAP OAuth. However, even after following these steps, the issue was not resolved.
One user found a workaround by removing the existing connection and establishing them from scratch. This seemed to work for some scenarios, but not all. It was also discovered that one scenario was working even though the connections tab in the scenario was blank. This was a strange occurrence, as it shouldn't be possible.
In conclusion, the issue seems to be with the Make app's compatibility with Microsoft's new Modern authentication. While some workarounds have been found, the issue is still not fully resolved. It is recommended to reach out to Make support for further assistance.
