Mastering One-Time Connections on Make.com: A User's Guide
Hey there, Make.com users! Today, we're going to tackle a common challenge that many of us face when using Make.com for workflow deployment - dealing with one-time connections. This is especially relevant for those of us in the website hosting business, where we have to manage numerous independent SSH-connections, FTP-connections, and Wordpress-connections. These connections are typically used just once to set up a client's environment.
The Problem
While it's great to see all your connections on Make.com when they're 'fixed', adding one-time connections and changing the Connection Settings of a module can be quite time-consuming. This is particularly true when you have multiple modules in one scenario.
Before executing the scenario, we usually configure some variables. We can use scenario variables in all modules, but not in the Connection Settings of a module. This can be a bit of a hassle when dealing with a lot of connections that are used just once.
The Solution
So, what's the solution? Well, as a user, you might want to use (scenario/team/system) variables and/or scenario inputs for the connections settings of a module. This way, you can use one-time connections in your scenario in a time-reduced way.
What if you're using multiple FTP-connections but split-up in multiple modules? Now, you need to change the Connection Settings two times in your scenario. Is there some way to 'sync' these Connection Settings? Unfortunately, there's no direct way to do this at the moment.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you're stuck, don't worry! Here are some troubleshooting tips:
- Take a screenshot of your scenario along with the relevant module configurations and share the images with the community. This can help others understand the challenge you're facing and provide useful suggestions.
- Consider logging your issue into the Idea Exchange platform as a feature request. Other users can upvote your suggestion and you can follow the progress of the feature being released.
Conclusion
In conclusion, dealing with one-time connections on Make.com can be a bit of a challenge, but with the right approach, it's definitely manageable. Remember to use variables and scenario inputs for your connections settings, and don't hesitate to reach out to the community for help. Happy Making!
